Active learning happens best the students are engaged with the topic. With this purpose in mind, Crescendo-HELP International School adopts the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) which ensures rigorous and participative learning using a comprehensive and thematic approach.
As one of UK's fastest growing curriculum, IPC is currently practised in over 90 countries and used by over 1,600 schools. Learning with IPC takes a global approach, embedded with a clear process of learning which covers 3 main goals - academic, personal and international-mindedness. The themes are chosen to cater to the needs according to the child's interest and age group, ensuring a balance in subjects and learning styles.
Students from lower secondary are exposed to a range of subjects which allow for their curious minds to explore various themes and subjects. This is to prepare them for upper secondary where students choose their IGCSE subjects in order to further move them on for tertiary education. The International Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), the registered trademark of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) offers qualifications that are internationally recognised and accepted by colleges and universities around the world.
We inspire our students to see science as an act of discovery and adventure. From a young age, children are taught to see the relevance of science to our everyday lives and to apply scientific thought to understand the world around us. Inquiry, logic, open mindedness, critical analysis - these are the building blocks for future scientific leaders; perhaps a new Einstein or Hawking will pass through our doors!
We believe that Mathematics is one of the most powerful and effective ways to teach problem solving skills to students. Mathematics is less about memorizing formulas and more about logic and reasoning which are an integral part of higher order thinking skills (HOTS).
English & Mandarin
We are preparing our students to be global citizens, learning how to master multiple languages. By gaining an understanding with a degree of fluency in some languages and the mastering of others, our students will be able to interact, work, and conduct business with confidence. Indeed, by mastering English and Mandarin, effective communication and interactions can be held with majority of the world's population.
Students are taught the national language of Malaysia in order to create unity, increase cultural awareness and heighten a sense of national identity and pride.
Spanish is being taught as an additional language to all children from Year 4 to Year 9 and is an option choice for IGCSE.
Design & Technology
The design and technology programme challenges our students to be innovative and creative. More than just learning a skill, students are taught to think about the process of design - from researching market trends and consumer patterns, to considering ergonomics and aesthetics, and ultimately drafting, designing, constructing and assessing the products
As part of their development into thoughtful, considerate and cultured adults, our students are taught how to appreciate the beauty of art in all its forms and how to become artistic themselves. They will learn how to understand perspective and symbolism and be exposed to art across history from cave drawings to the Renaissance to Post-Modernism.
They will learn to appreciate the link between art and culture and will get a chance to try their hand at activities like abstract art and creating meaningful collages. In Art, the mind is freed to venture into creative areas yet explored.
ICT & Computing
Students are exposed to computational thinking and problem solving from an early age at CHIS. Students are able to explore and develop a range of digital skills to support their learning across the curriculum and are encouraged to be technologically creative.
For students to be truly global citizens, they need to understand the world. Geography and History help students perceive and appreciate the natural world as well as the different societies, cultures and economies that populate each part of the globe throughout the centuries.
Our performing arts programme builds confidence in our students and gives them the courage to express themselves through music and drama. Students will take music and drama lessons as part of their regular curriculum.
In our sports and PE programme, students are exposed to different types of sports activities across the years so that every student will find a sport that allows him/her to develop a particular talent or interest. Sports not only encourage physical strength and health, but also help students cultivate other important virtues like self-discipline, resilience, perseverance, strength of will and esprit de corp. More than anything, sports encourage our students to continually challenge their limits and reach for greater heights.
The IPC has been developed to show children the connectivity of aspects of learning across the curriculum. There are many themes for each level of the primary school which allows staff to tailor the selection to ensure a balance across the subjects, knowledge and skills.
